Week 6 - RIP Elder Young

Area: Provo MTC
Companions: Hna Lamb and Hna Park


Some Highlights:
-GENERAL CONFERENCE! I love, love, loved the talks from Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, Elder Shayne M Bowen, and President Nelson! There is not enough room in this email to talk about how amazing they were, but I will say that God is good. Heaven, eternal exaltation, and the opportunity to have eternal happiness (as well as the lack thereof) are very, very real, and Christ truly is the head of this church. I highly encourage you all to go read these talks on lds.org and to listen to the other ones from conference if you weren't able to tune in to it last weekend!


-Our district is hosting 2 native Spanish-speaking sisters, and they got here on Sunday! Long story short, they're doing home MTC right now but are here in person at the Provo MTC doing all of their classes online. The rest of their district gets here on Wednesday, but until then, they are honorary members of our district! They come to church with us and join us for some meals, and when they don't have classes, etc. They are the sweetest hermanas! They're so patient with our Spanish and are so willing to help us and answer our questions!


-We got to help welcome the new missionaries again! Super fun.


-We got to go to the Provo City Center temple this morning! It was gorgeous and such an amazing experience. I truly love the temple.


-We started HSI (Habla su idioma, in English it's SYL—speak your language). This means that if you're learning a language in the MTC, you're supposed to only speak in your mission language for the entire last week of your time at the MTC, unless you're talking to someone who doesn't speak that language. Es muy difícil pero es bueno y muy interesante jajaja.


-My companions both performed in a musical devotional on Sunday! Hna Park accompanied Elders Villamar and Beatty in our district (they sang Gethsemane) and Hna Lamb sang a duet with Hna Crawford (they sang Beautiful Savior).


-We saw the solar eclipse! Some people had special glasses and let us look at it. Guys, the universe is so cool.


Email Subject Explanation:
-Elder Young had to leave the MTC early this week on medical release, but the good news is that his recovery time is short and he should be heading to Argentina in a couple of weeks! So we have to trudge through our last week with a hole in our district, but está bien haha. Buena suerte, Elder Young!


Spiritual Thought:
Our relationships with others are some of the most important things in this life. They can bring some of the most joy and happiness we can experience. This week, I invite you to identify a relationship in your life that you want to strengthen and then do so, one on one.


Whether it's a relationship that's already very strong or one that needs some help, I invite you to set aside some time this week with that person to do something fun! There is power in serving and loving people individually, one by one, just as Christ ministered to people one by one. The world needs your light and love!


3 Nephi 17:21
"And when he [Jesus Christ] had said these words, he wept, and the multitude bore record of it, and he took their little children, ONE BY ONE, and blessed them, and prayed unto the Father for them."

Week 9 Area: Olive Branch Comp: Hna Tingey Tuesday Had some fire lessons, almost put two people on a date, and had cookie night with the Lequia's! Wednesday Went to district council! We talked about what life would be like without the gospel (hint, it'd be super sad). We talked about how, as missionaries, our line of work is saving souls. But we don't have the power to literally save souls, so our work and glory is to direct others to the One who can (Jesus Christ)--to the One whose "work and glory is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." A Functional... Ward?

Week 50, Transfer 8 Area: Auburn (Auburn 2nd Ward) Compañera: Hermana Griffin Anyone who makes it to the end of this email deserves a fist bump in six months. Highlights: First week in Auburn! It is a crazy busy area! I asked my mission president for one thing this transfer—to go somewhere where I could just work. And boy, did I get my wish! Three people just got baptized recently and all got confirmed yesterday! The gift of the Holy Ghost is such a blessing! We made the goal to put seven people on date this transfer. Your prayers for the people in our area and for us would be much appreciated! The ward is so... put together here! Everyone just knows what to do and... does it? I never thought I'd be able to serve in a ward because after the mission split last summer, the only Spanish ward got put into the Sacramento boundaries. But here we are in Auburn, integrated with the ward, doing translation every Sunday, trying to start a Spanish group! The Lord's truth is marching on! H...

Week 52, Transfer 8 Area: Auburn (Auburn 2nd Ward) Compañera: Hermana Griffin Highlights, Lowlights, and Rollercoasters JOANA HAS A DATE FOR BAPTISM!!! Please keep praying for her; she's going to need some extra strength these next few weeks! Our friend Alex MOVED. She got notice two days in advance. She'll be gone for work training for 14 weeks, BUT she gets one call every Sunday, and since she doesn't have much family, she asked if we could call every week and have lessons over the phone. The missionary heart in me was SOOO HAPPY! She is the elect of the elect. PLEASE KEEP PRAYING FOR ALEX!! Had our first lesson with our friend Valentin!!! He had some crazy good questions. He wanted to know the differences between our church and his church, and we were able to testify so strongly of prophets and apostles, eternal families, life after death, the spirit world, and the three kingdoms.
