Man, Some Men Are Weird
Week 9
Area: Olive Branch
Comp: Hna Tingey
Tuesday
Had some fire lessons, almost put two people on a date, and had cookie night with the Lequia's!
Wednesday
Went to district council! We talked about what life would be like without the gospel (hint, it'd be super sad). We talked about how, as missionaries, our line of work is saving souls. But we don't have the power to literally save souls, so our work and glory is to direct others to the One who can (Jesus Christ)--to the One whose "work and glory is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." (Moses 1:39) Because of Christ's gospel, we know what's to come in the next life, so we've got to be bold in declaring the good news of the gospel. Despite what the world may think, our goal as missionaries isn't to force people to join this church--our goal is to help others feel loved through the love of Christ, prepare people a little better for eternity, and live life with a little more joy. THAT is what this gospel does. And if they choose to join the church, WOOT WOOT! If not, we can hope that they at least felt a little more peace and joy in their life.
Thursday
We went to a lesson with a lady the Elders referred to us. She already has Book of Mormons and a deep respect for God and Jesus Christ. She said basically that she knows she needs a better relationship with them and wants one. I've never seen someone so genuinely want a relationship with God as strongly as she does!! It's unexplainable until you witness it. At the end of the lesson, she literally told us how insane her work schedule is and how she never gets to spend time with her kids, but right when we thought she was going to drop us, she straight up said, "but I will make time for you next Thursday with my kids." We could care less if she makes time for us--what she really said was "I'll make time for God" and that is HUGE!!! So make time for God in your life. He will bless you beyond what you can imagine.
Friday
All of our lessons fell through today, but we had dinner with a member and English class (nobody showed up but I played hymns on the piano while we waited so that was fun haha).
Saturday
Nuestra rama tenía Cinco de Mayo fiesta!! Hna Tingey made churros for it and I made enchiladas! Me encanta enchiladas... La fiesta fue muy divertida! Muchas personas estaban allí y fue muy divertido hablar con los miembros de nuestra rama y el barrio de inglés! Había mucha comida deliciosa y cantos. ¡Incluso una chica bailó!
Sunday
We had some friends at church!!! One of the branch members brought his mom and sister and they were super sweet. And Hermana Ochoa, one of our branch members who works on Sundays, finally had a Sunday off and was able to come! It was so fun to finally meet her!
Spiritual thought
Something a lot of missionaries know is the idea: "be awkward for Jesus," because as a missionary, you talk to a lot of people and it can be really awkward when you don't know them. But something I love even more is the phrase "BE FEARLESS FOR JESUS." Be bold. Pay attention to your spiritual promptings and then FOLLOW THEM!! Be fearless especially when you have an opportunity to share the gospel, make someone happy, and do something good in this world. It's worth it!
