The Sacrament Bread Is Sourdough...It's Gonna Be A Good Day

Week 29, Transfer 4
Area: Yuba City (Tierra Buena Branch)
Comp: Hermana Leatherwood

Hola hola! Thank you for all the birthday wishes! This was a good week, lots of cool things happened! We met Leti at English class and she asked US to be taught more about this church. We had an incredible lesson the next day and gave her a Libro de Mormón. She is SO cool, please pray for her that she'll be able to come to church this week!

We also had a lesson with our friend Juan this week! This was our 4th lesson with him. He is so humble, down to earth and so cool! He's living here for work, away from his family back in Mexico. He comes to English class all the time, has come to church, and is just so cool. This last lesson we had we ended up following the council of the general authority who came to our mission last zone conference -- if your friend doesn't do the commitment from the last lesson, do it with them. We invited him to read from the Book of Mormon, but he wasn't able to.

So... we opened up to good old 1 Nephi chapter 1, the one everyone reads 300 times haha. There's a reason the first chapter is what it is. There's nothing crazy in it... but there's something special about the spirit when you read it. Usually while reading, people have questions and as missionaries we want to explain and connect things to help them understand it better... but both Hermana Leatherwood and I lowkey just couldn't do it. Something told us very quietly to just sit back and read.

We finished the chapter reading straight through verse 1-20, no explanations, no questions, no comments. I kept wondering why I wasn't saying anything. We finished reading and asked Juan what he thought. He paused, pondered for a moment, and said, "I don't know how to explain it. I have never felt anything like this before." We were able to help Juan recognize that he was feeling the spirit.

Guys, the spirit is real. GOD is real. Jesus Christ LIVES. This life has eternal significance!! Juan felt a glimpse of that this week and it's powerful to see.

Each one of us can feel that same importance too. Read the scriptures with real intent. Pray with a desire and question in mind and you WILL see the Lord's hand working in your life. It will all be worth it, I promise!

PS don't forget about General Conference on Oct. 5/6! We get to hear from the prophet and apostles of the Lord!

Con amor,
Hermana Ellis
