Transfers, Cantaloupe, And MIRACLES!!!
Week 68, Transfer 11
Area: Chico Bidwell Spanish Branch
Compañera: Hermana Morgan!
Highlights!
Said goodbye to everyone in Auburn and had some really cool "last" lessons (for me) with some friends there.
We had transfers on Wednesday so now I'm officially in Chico!! I love it here!! Definitely the change I needed—God always has a way of knowing what we need... He's pretty amazing like that. Shoutout to my cousin Reina who actually served in this SAME mission, in the SAME area, in this SAME Spanish branch a few years ago!! Everyone knows and loves her and it's been so fun that everyone asks about her and making that connection with the members!! I love it so much and being able to share that with her and meet all of her favorite members is definitely a unique experience that I will treasure forever! The Lord has a work for me to do these last few months of my mission, that's for sure. I can't wait to figure out what that is!
Had some awesome lessons and interactions with our friends here in Chico!! Invited Karina to be baptized (we'll be talking about an official date next lesson with her!), talked about baptism with our friend Graciela who said she's not super interested in that right now, so that was sad, talked about the Restoration with our friend Nataly who has a ton of super good questions, met Miguel for the first time and had our lesson in the middle of a wedding venue surrounded by palm trees and the cutest puppy ever named Cielo, and we also found out that like 4 of our friends are actually related.
Met Mario Alejandro!! He is a miracle. He sent in his own referral on social media that he wants to come to church, so we tried to call/text with no luck. Stopped by his house one day because he gave us his address in the referral, but no one answered. However, as we were leaving, we had the impression to leave our church/English class invite handout on the door, so we did. We get a call a few minutes later and it's him!!! He said he doesn't like opening the door when he doesn't know who it is, which is valid, and that he got our church/English class invite and is super interested in coming to both!! He's been in contact with missionaries and read some of the Book of Mormon in the past. But then he moved a few months ago to Chico and has since been looking for the Church and English class info! He then proceeded to COME TO CHURCH yesterday with one of our members, Julio, who helped him feel so comfortable and understand what was going on!
ALSO!!!! 5 OF OUR FRIENDS CAME TO CHURCH THIS SUNDAY!!!!!!! YAYYYY!!!!
Ate/talked about/saw an absurd amount of cantaloupe this week... hence why the emoji is a cantaloupe.
Hna Morgan and I rekindled our love for taco trucks this week. Neither of us have been to one in FOREVER, so we decided to full send when we were in Orland one day during dinner time (taco truck supreme burritos are where it's at).
Hermana Morgan and I have also been having a BLAST together, and it's only been a week! If everyone could please keep her in your prayers though, that would be awesome!! She's going through it right now.
FAVORITE SCRIPTURE FROM THIS WEEK
We've shared from Ether 4 a lot the past couple of days and it has become a very meaningful/powerful chapter for me! Something one of the Elders shared during a member meal was from Ether 4:8:
"And he that will contend against the word of the Lord, let him be accursed; and he that shall deny these things, let him be accursed; for unto them will I show no greater things, saith Jesus Christ; for I am he who speaketh."
The curse here isn't some mystical, wand-waving magic. It won't turn you into a pumpkin or a frog. The curse is that if we go against the word of the Lord, which we know to be perfect because He knows the end from the beginning and how to give us the best opportunity to receive eternal JOY and exaltation with our families forever, or if, worse yet, we deny the Lord, our curse will be that we will not receive further light and knowledge. He will not show unto us greater things. The windows of heaven will begin to close.
This scripture comes after the brother of Jared literally SEES the finger of the Lord who touches the stones and gives them light. It comes after Jared was told that there was never a man with such great faith. The counsel from this scripture comes after Jared has SEEN such great things, but he's told that there are yet GREATER things to behold, and if he doesn't remain worthy of them, he will be cursed by not being able to see them.
The Lord WANTS EACH OF US to behold these greater things and miracles. Live worthy of it. Just live worthy of it. And if you aren't currently worthy of it, take whatever steps are necessary to BECOME worthy of it. Become worthy to enter the temple. Become worthy to partake of the sacrament. Become worthy to behold the greater things the Lord has in store for YOU.
Just do it... and you will see blessings beyond your wildest imaginations. The Lord loves you and wants you to feel that too, so become worthy of the constant companionship of the Spirit to be able to feel that love in all times, in all things, and in all places! You will not regret it. It will be worth it. :)
